Cumilla

Comilla District , officially known as Cumilla District.It is a district of Bangladesh located about 100 kilometres south east of Dhaka. Comilla is bordered by Brahmanbaria and Narayanganj districts to the north, Noakhali and Feni districts to the south, Tripura of India to the east and Munshiganj and Chandpur districts to the west.

Established as the Tippera or Tipperah district of Bengal by the British in 1790, it included the Sub-divisions of Brahmanbaria and Chandpur which eventually became separate districts in 1984.The district was renamed Comilla in 1960. Comilla district is located in the south eastern part of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development

Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) an autonomous national institution for training, research and experiment on rural development. Established in 1959 in Comilla, the institution is governed by a Board of Governors with the Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives as its chairman.

Shalban Vihara

Shalban vihara is an archaeological site in Mainamati, Comilla, Bangladesh. The ruins are in the middle of the Lalmai hills ridge, and these are of a 7th-century Paharpur-style Buddhist viharas with 115 cells for monks. It operated through the 12th century.Excavations have revealed many archaeological artifacts dated to between the 7th and 12th centuries. Most of them are kept in the Mainamati Museum now.

Shalbon Buddhist Temple

Beside Shalbon Biharthere are statues of Buddha standing in sandy stone. It is estimated in the 7th century. There are two copper rule in the 12-13th century. Among the other important items, the huge bell of bronze (370 kg weighing), Shiva's vehicle of black stone, Burma manuscript of Talpata is one of the most important.

Mainamati War Cemetery

Comilla Cantonment is an important military base and the oldest in East Bengal. It was widely used by the British Indian Army during World War II. It was the headquarter of the British 14th Army. There is a war cemetery, Maynamati War Cemetery, in Comilla that was established after the World War II to remember the Allied soldiers who died during World War I and II, mostly from Commonwealth states and the United States.

Dharmasagar Pond

Dharmasagar a large pond or dighi located in Comilla town with an area of 9.38 hectare. Maharaj Dharmamanikya of Tripura (1714-1732) dug this dighi to make water available to the local people. Initially, there was an island at the middle of the dighi. Comilla Stadium and Comilla Zila School are now located on the eastern bank of the dighi. On the other hand, Comilla Municipal Park, Rani Kutir and kazi nazrul islam memorial hall are on the north and Rajdevi Maternity and a Childcare Centre are situated on the southeast of Dharmasagar. These historical marks made this dighi an attractive tourist spot. Migratory birds usually visit the spot during winter.

Comilla Victoria College

Comilla Victoria Government College is a college in Comilla, Bangladesh. It is one of the oldest and renowned colleges in Comilla as well as in Chittagong division. The college is located on 29 acres of land including its intermediate and honors section.Prof. Fazlul Karim was the first Muslim teacher of this college in 1937. He later became the Vice Prinncipal of the college in 1958 until his retirement in 1972 when the college was made a government college.

Jagannath Temple

Comilla Jagannath Temple, also known as Sateroratna Mandir or seventeen-jewel temple, is located in Comilla, Bangladesh. It is dedicated to the Hindu God Jagannath. It dates back to the 16th century and was built by Sree Sreejoktou Moharaja Rada Kishor Manikuo Bahadur, who was the king of Tripura.
